Shirley & Jason

As Shirley walked into her sister's house for holiday family photos, she found that the house was empty but the living room was decorated with photos of herself and Jason, candles were on the floor in the shape of a heart filled with rose petals, and white lights were set as a backdrop. Jason entered the room and poured his heart out to her. He also showed her a video he made..."The video started with my dad and stepmom {who were in China at the time} saying how happy they were of our engagement. Then, my aunt, cousin, and grandparents who live in China also congratulated me in the video. I was already in tears, and couldn’t stop crying and laughing at the same time. The video ended with my best friend, Ran (lives in California, later became my Maid of Honor), who apologized for not being able to attend the proposal in person and started to play and sing “I Do” by 98 Degrees on the guitar (98 Degrees was the first concert Jason and I attended together). Mid-way through the song, the video ends, and Ran walked into the room from behind the white backdrop with a guitar, finishing the song." Jason then proposed and as Shirley was overflowing with emotion, the rest of her close family and friends walked into the living room. They had been watching the entire proposal on a hidden camera!

Shirley and Jason knew they wanted a venue with picturesque outdoor scenery. They chose Regency at Dominion Valley because it was a private club with lots of rolling green hills and ponds with a breathtaking view. Shirley is a wedding planner so her expertise was able to shine throughout all wedding details. The theme was warm and romantic with floral accents and coral, blush, gold and ivory as a color scheme. Mostly all decor was DIY including the stationary, programs, menus, centerpieces, and even the arch was built by Jason's father. My Sweet Array created the gorgeous pompoms that hung on ceremony chairs and the dessert table.

The ceremony was unique because both the bride and groom walked down the aisle with their father and mother. Shirley loved that Jason also got attention as a groom. Shirley's great friend did a reading and a good friend of Jason's officiated the ceremony. The couple chose to do their own special vows and Jason even started his with references to movie titles which added more of a personal touch to the ceremony.

The bride and groom loved everything about the reception, especially going around to every table to say thank you and give a quick toast. You know the reception was a good time when Shirley's father did shots with the groomsmen! Friends and family enjoyed a dual plate entree of steak and shrimp stuffed with crab meat. The dessert table, designed by My Sweet Array, was incredibly beautiful and the desserts, especially the macarons, were irresistible.

One moment the bride will always cherish was the first dance because they truly lived in the moment with each other by singing and dancing, hoping the moment would last forever. Another memorable part of the reception was when Shirley's family linked arms and started a circle on the dance floor. Everyone swayed to the music as more and more family and friends joined the circle. The bride and groom, were linked as a huge circle to everyone they love. A beautiful moment to end a beautiful day spent with close family and friends.

Advice from the bride: "The faster you can let go of things that went wrong on your wedding day, the more you can enjoy your wedding. Take time to truly absorb the love and enjoy all moments with your Groom, family, and friends, because the wedding will fly by with a blink of an eye and it is not worthwhile dwelling on the things that did not go as planned – no weddings will be 100% as planned."
